A Prophecy, a 14yr old asthmatic boy, and a throne in dispute.
The air has always spoken to Jaime, whispers and warnings: ‘run, run, run’. When he finds and touches the sigil of the Air Element and inadvertently sets off a banestorm we learn that which Jaime does not yet know, let alone accept: he is an Air Sage, the prophesy was written about him. He is the long lost son of the Fire King and he must duel to the death his own father to save the Four Kingdoms.
We follow Jaime on his quest not only to find an Airmaster to teach him about controlling/using Air but also has he grows from a weak boy who needs to be cared for into a young man who is strong enough to be our hero.
Ms. Young has created a rich, inventive and complex work in which our young hero lives. There are twists and turns and political intrigue that he must navigate at his peril. While this is considered to be YA Fantasy the themes and scenes are more mature than the YA Fantasy title would imply.
This is an enjoyable, engaging and well written book and I look forward to reading the entire series.
